Vietnamese new vehicle sales edge down 0.7% year-on-year in May to 23.065 units, pulling the year-to-date volume down 5.6% to 103.746. Thaco-Kia (-7%) once again distances Toyota (-8%) to lead the manufacturer ranking but as always it owes its pole position to heavy trucks accounting for 58% of its May sales. Mazda (+24%) reclaims the third spot off Honda (+176%) still very impressive at 11% share vs. 8.6% so far in 2018. Hyundai gains 30% in 6th place while Peugeot posts the largest increase in market this month: up 16-fold to 1.7% share and just under 400 sales. Model-wise, the Toyota Vios (+30%) continues to frankly dominate the charts ahead of the Toyota Innova (+60%), Mazda3 (+19%) and Mazda CX-5 (+80%), replicating the YTD Top 4. The Kia Cerato (+126%), Honda CR-V (+113%), City (+92%) and Toyota Corolla (+91%) also impress in the Top 10 while just outside, the Ford Ecosport (+98%) and Chevrolet Colorado (+72%) shine. The Chevrolet Trailblazer lands directly at #20.
