New car sales in Thailand gain an astounding 25.2% year-on-year in April to 79.206 registrations, marking an 8th double-digit gain in a row and lifting the year-to-date volume up 15.5% to 316.299 and now on track to return to the annual million milestone for the first time since 2013. Brand leader Toyota outpaces the market at +30% to 29.3% share vs. 27.6% YTD whereas Isuzu trails it slightly at +22% to 18.6% and Honda matches the overall growth at +25% to 13.2%. Both leading pickups beat the market this month: the Isuzu D-Max is up 26% to 17.2% share vs. 15.8% YTD, celebrating 13 wins in the past 14 months while thee Toyota Hilux surges 37% to 13.7% vs. 12.3% so far in 2018 but just hasn’t found a way to threaten the D-Max, seeing its gap extend to over 11.000 units in four months. The Ford Ranger (+41%) posts the largest gain in the Top 10 at #3 while the remainder of the Top 10 all underperform. The Toyota Yaris Ativ stays at #7 while the Toyota C-HR confirms the 12th spot it held during its inaugural month in March.
