Switzerland May 2018: VW T-Roc breaks into Top 5

Switzerland follows Austria as the 2nd country in the world to have the VW T-Roc in its Top 5.

The Swiss new car market returns to negative for the third time in 2018 at -2% to 27.826 units, pulling the year-to-date volume into negative also at -0.4% to 126.434 registrations. Volkswagen (-3%) and BMW (-1%) roughly follow the market at the helm of the brands ranking, with Mercedes (-12%) in difficulty in third place. Skoda (+1%) returns to the 4th spot it holds year-to-date, overtaking Audi (-3%) and Renault (+25%), the French carmaker managing the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 15. Only Seat (+11%) and Ford (+7%) are also in positive in the Top 10, while further down Kia (+95%), Jeep (+72%), Mitsubishi (+43%), Alfa Romeo (+40%), Lexus (+34%) and Jaguar (+26%) make themselves noticed.

Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (-11%) reclaims the monthly top spot off the VW Golf (-25%) to cement its YTD leadership at 3.628 sales vs. 3.181 for the Golf. The VW T6 surges 67% to third place, still catching up on immobilised diesel vehicles during a stop sale in early 2017 – the same situation as in Germany. Below the VW Tiguan (-14%) at #4, Switzerland becomes the second country in the world after Austria in April to welcome the VW T-Roc in its monthly Top 5 at #5 in May, up 19 spots on April. The Audi A3 (-3%) makes it 6 models in the Swiss Top 6 for the Volkswagen Group, its best result in over two years, since March 2016 when it held the Top 7 spots. Further down, the Renault Captur (+85%), Seat Ateca (+72%), Audi Q5 (+51%), Renault Megane (+45%), BMW X3 (+94%), Volvo XC60 (+27%) and Dacia Duster (+25%) shine.
