It would appear Czech new car sales are not done just yet with hitting record levels: April sales mark the third year-on-year gain in the past seven months at +6.6% to 24.259 registrations, meaning the YTD is back into record territory at +1.5% on the same period in 2017 at 92.132 units. Brand leader Skoda follows its home market at +6% to 32.2% share, albeit almost one percentage point below it YTD level of 33.1%. Volkswagen (+8%), Hyundai (+13%), Peugeot (+33%) and most strikingly Dacia (+51%!) follow, all outpacing the market. In the remainder of the Top 10, Toyota (+25%) and Kia (+16%) also shine but Ford (-25%), Seat (-18%) and Renault (-15%) are in great difficulty. Further down, Suzuki (+94%), Mini (+90%), Tesla (+50%), Subaru (+48%), Honda (+46%), Lexus (+46%), Nissan (+45%), Citroen (+30%) and Mazda (+30%) all impress with sizeable gains.

The Skoda Karoq is inside its home Top 5 for the third consecutive month.

Over in the models ranking, Skoda achieves a rare feat: placing 6 models in the Top 7, its best performance since having 6 in the Top 6 in May 2017. The Octavia (+10%) firmly holds onto the overall lead, distancing the Fabia (-22%) and Rapid (+58%). The Karoq is down one spot on its record #4 ranking last month, ahead of the Superb (-6%) and Kodiaq (-12%). Note Skoda monopolises the YTD Top 5 for the first time in history this month (Octavia/Fabia/Rapid/Superb/Karoq). The only “foreign” nameplate in the Top 7 is the locally produced Hyundai i30 leaping up 40% year-on-year and 6 spots on March to #4 overall, due to the arrival of the fastback variant alongside the hatch and station wagon. It however ranks at #8 YTD vs. #5 over the FY2017. The VW Golf (+13%), Nissan Qashqai (+100%) and Dacia Dokker (+91%) complete the April Top 10. Just below, notice also the Hyundai Tucson (+80%) and Dacia Duster (+79%) in great shape.
