South Africa March 2018: VW Polo Vivo and Nissan NP200 up

Nissan NP200 sales are up 21% year-on-year in South Africa in March.

The South African new car market is up 1.1% year-on-year to 49.233 registrations in March, but the Q1 volume remains in negative at -4.1% to 141.2872 units. Toyota easily remains the most popular manufacturer in the country, improving faster than the market at +3% to 23.1% share and distancing the Volkswagen Group (+2%), Ford (-7%) and Nissan surging 25% to 11% share. Renault (+33%), Mazda (+16%) and Hyundai-Kia (+12%) also shine inside the Top 10 whereas General Motors/Isuzu crumbles down 51%. Further down, the Fiat Group (+50%), Suzuki (+50%), Honda (+19%), Jaguar Land Rover (+17%) and Mahindra (+13%) are among the most dynamic. Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux cements its leadership with a 11% year-onyear gain while the VW Polo Vivo – now the Polo Mk5 in hatchback variant, still the Mk4 sedan though – rallies back up two spots on February and 15% year-on-year to #2. The Ford Ranger (-15%), VW Polo (+6%) and Nissan NP200 (+21%) – aka Dacia Logan pickup – round up the Top 5. The Toyota Yaris (+328%), Renault Kwid (+131%), Datsun GO (+112%), Hyundai Grand i10 (+110%), Toyota Quantum (+24%) and Kia Picanto (+23%) also impress while the Hyundai Creta tops all recent launches at #30.
