Sweden February 2018: Volvo S/V90 hits 10.8% share, XC40 up to #22

The Volvo S/V90 breaks its volume and share records at home this month.

New car sales in Sweden are down once again at -1.9% in February to 27.211 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total down 1.6% to 50.191 units. Homegrown brand leader Volvo stuns with a very solid 13% year-on-year gain lifting its market share to 24.6%, four percentage point above its January level. Volkswagen (-3%) struggles at 14.4% share above Kia (+1%), Toyota (-5%), Audi (-1%), BMW (-22%) and Mercedes (-3%), meaning Volvo and Kia are the only carmakers in the Top 7 to post a positive result. Ferrari (+150%), Porsche (+97%), Ssangyong (+58%), Alfa Romeo (+47%), Hyundai (+29%), Jeep (+28%), Seat (+23%) and Fiat (+20%) impress whereas Bentley (-86%), Maserati (-63%), Tesla (-61%), Ford (-40%), Citroen (-37%), Land Rover (-31%), Mitsubishi (-31%), Jaguar (-27%) and Mini (-24%) disappoint.

The Volvo XC40 is knocking at the Top 20’s door.

Over in the models ranking, the Volvo S/V90 continues to progress, up 54% year-on-year to lodge a 6th consecutive #1 ranking, a 3rd consecutive market share record at 10.8%, a new volume record at 2.940 and a 6th consecutive month-on-month market share increase. The Volvo S/V60 (+15%) follows at 5.7% with the VW Golf (-6%), Passat (+27%) and Volvo XC60 (-24%) rounding up the Top 5. The Nissan Qashqai is up 49% to #7, the Audi Q5 is up 5-fold on its February 2017 score to #9 and the Volvo XC40 slices its January ranking in two to advance to #22.
