It’s a 10th consecutive positive result in Brazil with February new car sales up 14.6% to 151.691 units, the market’s 8th double-digit year-on-year gain in the past 10 months. This leads to a year-to-date volume up 18.6% to 327.237 registrations. Both Chevrolet (+18%) and Volkswagen (+29%) outpace the market atop the brands ranking, hitting 18.1% and 14.7% share respectively, but Fiat isn’t benefitting from the market’s recovery at all, with deliveries actually down at -8% to just 11.4% share. Below, Hyundai (+19%) is back up to 4th place, overtaking Ford (+16%) while Toyota (+10%) underperforms at #6. Renault soars 31%, Nissan is up 28%, Kia up 117%, Land Rover up 28%, JAC up 57% to return to #1 Chinese brand in Brazil and Volvo up 39%.

The Renault Kwid is up to #5 in Brazil this month.

The Chevrolet Onix remains the #1 car in Brazil by far but trails the market for once at +7% to 8.4% share. The Hyundai HB20 (+13%) reclaims the 2nd spot it held over the FY2017 off the Ford Ka (+14%) for only the 2nd time in the past 6 months and the new VW Polo confirms it is the brand’s new best-seller, managing to hold onto the 4th spot it hit last month. There is one surprise in the Top 10: the Renault Kwid shooting up 16 spots on January to land in 5th place, it did a similar stunt last September when it snapped the 2nd place overall. Regardless of the nameplate’s irregularity, this is good news for the French carmaker. The VW Gol retracts by 2% whereas the Jeep Compass (+39%) and Fiat Strada (+26%) post the largest gains in the Top 10. Below, the Fiat Argo already drops 4 ranks on last month to a disappointing #12, the all-new VW Virtus is up 75 spots to #34 while the Fiat Cronos is stuck at #123 for now (+6).
