Ukraine Full Year 2017: Sportage and Duster top market up 25%

The Kia Sportage repeats atop the Ukrainian models charts in 2017.

Obliterated by the impact of the Crimean crisis – down 54% in 2014 and 52% in 2015 – new car sales in Ukraine recovered in 2016 at +41% and continue to rally back up in 2017 at +25.3% to 82.330 units, the largest annual volume since 2014 with December 2017 (9.179) the best month outright since March 2014 (10.964) – see below for the monthly detail. Toyota remains the favourite carmaker in Ukraine, following the market at +26% to 11.8% share ahead of Renault (+36%), Volkswagen (+30%), Skoda (+37%) and Kia (+34%) all outpacing the market and camping on their 2016 rankings.

Hyundai (+28%) is up two spots above Nissan (+26%), both manufacturers overtaking Ford (-2%) one of only two brands in decline in the Top 15 alongside BMW (-8%). In contrast, newly launched Ravon (+731%), Chery (+143%), Seat (+131%), Infiniti (+105%), Mitsubishi (+103%), Audi (+69%), Fiat (+77%), Peugeot (+49%), Citroen (+48%) and Suzuki (+41%) all post outstanding results. Among smaller brands, Alfa Romeo (+233%), Maserati (+200%), Bentley (+190%) and Acura (+141%) shine, whereas big drops include Lada (-49%), Ssangyong (-47%), Geely (-40%), ZAZ (-38%), UAZ (-35%) and Chevrolet (-32%).

The Renault Duster is up 47% to 2nd place overall.

Over in the models ranking, the Kia Sportage manages a second consecutive year on top, beating the market at +36% to 4.5% share with the Renault Duster (+47%) making it two SUVs atop the models charts for the very first time. The Renault Logan (+35%) is knocked down to third place above the Toyota RAV4 (+47%) passing the Skoda Octavia (+34%). Excellent performance of the Hyundai Tucson up 64% and 6 spots to #6 while the Nissan Qashqai (+44%) makes it five SUVs in the Ukrainian Top 10 for 2017.

The Hyundai Tucson is up to #6 in Ukraine in 2017. 

The Ravon R2 ends its first full year of sales at #9, while the VW Golf is up 6-fold to #12, the VW Tiguan up 225% to #17, the Mitsubishi Outlander up 226% to #20 and the Audi A3 up 16-fold (!) to #27. The Ravon R4 (#38) is the best-selling all-new launch for 2017 ahead of the Skoda Kodiaq (#45) and Kia Niro (#86). The Chery Tiggo (+169%) is the best-selling Chinese nameplate in Ukraine this year at #42, distancing the Geely Emgrand 7 (+77%), Great Wall Haval M4 (+118%) and Great Wall Voleex C30 (+35%).
