The Slovenian new car market posts a fifth consecutive year of growth in 2017 at +11.3% to 70.892 registrations, the highest annual result this decade. Volkswagen (+9%) remains the best-selling carmaker in the country at 14.9% share but 2nd-placed Renault (+20%) is catching up fast at 14.1% vs. 13% in 2016. The Top 5 is unchanged on last year with Skoda (+16%), Opel (+1%) and Hyundai (+19%) in tow. Dacia (+29%) lodges the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10, with Citroen (+15%) and Nissan (+12%) also up in the double-digits. Below, Abarth (+171%), Jaguar (+143%), Maserati (+100%), Honda (+97%), Alfa Romeo (+91%), Land Rover (+39%), Toyota (+37%), Volvo (+31%) and Suzuki (+29%) are all up spectacularly.

The VW Golf is up 32% in 2017 and topped the Slovenian monthly rankings five times.

Over in the models ranking, the locally-produced Renault Clio celebrates 20 consecutive years in pole position but it is definitely feeling the heat this year: down 6% to 5.1% share, it only ranked #1 four times (vs. seven in 2016) and hasn’t done so at any time during the second semester (leader in January, February, March and May). In contrast, the VW Golf surges 32% to 4.8% and topped the monthly charts five times (June, July, September, October and November). The Skoda Octavia is up 15% to remain in third place and was #1 in April and November, while the Renault Megane shoots up 77% and 7 spots to #4, snapping the top spot in August. The Captur (-4%) makes it three Renaults in the 2017 Top 5, followed by the Hyundai Tucson (+26%) with the Dacia Sandero, up 79% and 15 ranks to #7 and VW Tiguan, up 67% and 13 spots to #10, also impressive. Further down, the Ford Focus (+67%), Citroen C3 (+152%), Renault Scenic (+122%) and Kadjar (+140%) make themselves noticed in the Top 25.
