Portugal Full Year 2017: Renault Clio leads for 5th consecutive year

Fifth consecutive year of growth for the Portuguese new car market at +7.1% to 222.129 units in 2017, the highest annual score since 2010 (223.464) and a stunning 133% above the low of 95.290 hit in 2012. Renault remains in control of the brands ranking, even doubling the market growth at +16% to 13.6% share vs. 12.5% a year ago. In fact, the entire Top 10 in unchanged on 2016, with Peugeot (+6%) and Volkswagen (-3%) on the podium and Mercedes (+6%), BMW (+2%) and Opel (+9%) in tow. Fiat (+18%), Nissan (+11%) and Citroen (+10%) are the other carmaker posting a double-digit gain in the Top 10. Below, Jeep (+68%), Suzuki (+67%), Porsche (+57%), Hyundai (+37%), Alfa Romeo (+24%), Dacia (+22%), Lexus (+22%) and Maserati (+21%) impress. Among smaller brands, Bentley (+150%), Aston Martin (+129%) and Lamborghini (+100%) are also up.

The Nissan Qashqai is up three spots on 2016 to #4 in Portugal this year.

Model-wise, the Renault Clio cements its leadership with a market-beating 11% gain to 5.7% share, topping the annual Portuguese sales charts for the 5th year in a row and the 9th time in total (a series started in 1999). Like in 2016, it distances the Peugeot 208 (-1%) and Renault Megane (+5%) but the Nissan Qashqai is the new 4th best-seller thanks to deliveries up 21% year-on-year, overtaking the Renault Captur (+7%), VW Golf (-6%) and VW Polo (-7%). The Citroen C3 get a new generation boost up 27% and 7 spots to #7, the Peugeot 2008 is up 9% to #11, the BMW 1 Series up 7% to #15, the Dacia Sandero up 41% to #16, the Nissan Micra up 130% and 24 ranks to #20 thanks to the new model and the Fiat Tipo up 130% and 28 spots to #24. The Opel Crossland X (#61) is the most popular all-new launch for 2017.
