The Brazilian new car market continues to recover with November sales up 13.7% year-on-year to 197.247 units, meaning the year-to-date volume is now up 10.1% to 1.967.392 deliveries. Chevrolet follows the market with a 14% improvement to 18.9% share, while Volkswagen makes up for a particularly weak November 2016 score with registrations shooting up 59% to 13% share in 2nd place, its highest level since February and only the second time it ranks #2 this year along with last April. Fiat struggles at -9% to 12.6%, the only carmaker to lose ground in the Top 12. Ford (+22%), Jeep (+34%) and Nissan (+57%) also beat the market in the Top 10 while below, Peugeot (+41%), Suzuki (+34%) and Lifan (+33%) also do so. JAC (#20) is the best-selling Chinese carmaker in the country for November but remains below Chery year-to-date.

The Ford Ka ranks #2 for the second month running and the third time ever.

The Chevrolet Onix confirms it is the success story of these past two years: up 19% year-on-year, it posts its 2nd highest ever market share in Brazil at 9.4% (best: 9.7% last January) and has now been #1 without interruption for 28 months (since August 2015). The Ford Ka manages a second consecutive month in 2nd place (and third time ever) thanks to deliveries also up 19% on November 2016. The Hyundai HB20 fastens its fall at -30% in third place, whereas the VW Gol is on the up at +21%. The Fiat Mobi is down one spot on October but up 39% year-on-year while the Fiat Argo breaks into the Brazilian Top 10 for the first time at #9, posting record volume (5.015) and share (2.5%). The Jeep Compass confirms it is the most popular SUV in the country by remaining in the Top 10 (+80%), just above the Hyundai Creta up four spots to a best-ever #11. The VW Voyage (+103%) and Nissan Kicks (+142%) impress inside the Top 15.

Chevrolet Equinox

We welcome (back) the all-new VW Polo at #16 with 1.9% share, helping the German manufacturer to 2nd place overall as detailed above, and the Chevrolet Equinox at #63 with 0.2% share. Among other recent launches, the Renault Kwid freefalls down 15 ranks on last month to #32 (it ranked #2 in September), the Renault Captur is down 9 to #40 and the Honda WR-V down four to #43. Also of note, the Fiat Palio, overall best-seller over the Full Year 2014, implodes down 94% to #74, the nameplate’s lowest ever ranking in Brazil.
