Brazil October 2017: Ford Ka shines in market up 27%

More and more impressive: after soaring 17.8% in August and 24.9% in September, the Brazilian new light vehicle market gains a stunning 27% year-on-year in October to 196.635 registrations., lifting the year-to-date tally up 9.7% to 1.770.167 units. Chevrolet trails the market slightly at +23% but improves to 18.6% share vs. 18% so far this year. Fiat underperforms at just +5% to 13.1% vs. 13.6% year-to-date, while Volkswagen compensates for a particularly weak October score (+122%) but remains below its YTD level at 12% vs. 12.5%. Ford shines with a 29% year-on-year gain to 10.3% share, overtaking Hyundai (+10%) in the YTD ranking to snap the 4th place overall. After surging to #4 in August, Renault falls back to #7 this month but still beats the market at +31%. Excellent performances of Jeep (+57%), Nissan (+45%), Peugeot (+40%) and further down Land Rover (+51%) and Suzuki (+155%).

The Chery QQ remains the best-selling Chinese vehicle in Brazil. 

Model-wise, the Chevrolet Onix continues to defy gravity with a 30% year-on-year improvement to a stellar 9.3% market share, while the Ford Ka does even better at +56% to 2nd place overall with 4.9% share. This is only the 2nd time in Brazilian history that the Ka ranks that high after last May. The Hyundai HB20 is in difficulty at -22% in third place while the VW Gol, like most VW nameplates, posts a gigantic 237% increase but on a very low September 2016 base. The Fiat Mobi is back up 9 spots on September to #7 and the Jeep Compass celebrates one year in market with a strong 9th place, its 2nd best ranking in Brazil after the 8th spot it hit last April. The Fiat Argo drops one spot on last month to #12 but improves its volume to a record 4.159 units, all the while the Hyundai Creta is up to a solid #15. Author of one of the biggest surprises of the year last month when it hit an incredible 2nd place overall, the Renault Kwid falls back hard this month, down 62% and 15 spots on September to #17, slipping down just below the Sandero. The Captur on the other hand is up 15 ranks to #31.
