Taiwan September 2017: Honda CR-V on podium, Luxgen U5 lands

After a seven-month hiatus, Taiwan is back on BSCB with complete Top 10 brands and Top 75 models for each month since March. In September, the Taiwanese new car market is down 6.2% year-on-year to 31.375 registrations, meaning the year-to-date total is up a discreet 0.9% to 326.504 units. In the brands ranking, Toyota dives down 21% to just 21% share vs. 26.1% so far this year, distancing Mitsubishi/CMC down 18% to 10.3% whereas Honda shoots up 84% to 9.4% share in third place vs. #4 and 7.4% year-to-date. Mercedes is up 18% to #4, hitting 8.1% share vs. 6.5% so far in 2017 while Nissan/Infiniti is relegated to 5th place with deliveries down a harsh 35% to 7.5% share. BMW is up 21% to #6, Luxgen up 5% to #8 and Suzuki maintains itself at a very high level at #11 and 3.2% share.

The top of the models ranking has been relatively stable since March, with the Toyota Corolla and RAV4 holding the top two spots each month including September, the Honda HR-V ranking #3 in March and May, the CMC Veryca #3 in April and the Toyota Sienta #3 in June and August. The new generation Honda CR-V shot up 70% to #3 in July and an even more impressive 94% this month to snap the third place overall once again, with the HR-V following closely at #4. The CMC Veryca (-18%) and Mitsubishi Delica (-22%) both struggle, while the Toyota Sienta signs a solid #7 spot. The big arrival in September is the local Luxgen U5 landing directly at #15 with 1.7% share, launching simultaneously in Taiwan and China. Notice also the BMW 3 Series up 141% to #13, the Mercedes GLC up 184% to #17 and the Mazda CX-3 up 176% to #29. Among recent launches, the Toyota C-HR hits a record #21, the Suzuki Ignis ranks 50th, the Mitsubishi Grand Lancer is at #69 after starting at #13 back in April and the Suzuki Baleno is at #72.
