Spain September 2017: Qashqai and Megane lead, Seat Ateca up to #9

The Nissan Qashqai is the best-selling vehicle in Spain in September.

New car sales in Spain are up 4.5% year-on-year this month to post the highest September score since 2007 at 83.720 units. The year-to-date total is now up 6.7% to 938.171 sales, the highest after 8 months since 2008 (948.286). While rental sales are down 4.8% to 4.467, it’s business sales that pull the market up at +8.3% to 30.158 while private sales are up 3.2% to 49.095. Year-to-date, private sales edge up 2% to 471.678 and 50.3% share vs. 52.6% a year ago, business sales are up 14.2% to 267.070 and 28.5% share vs. 26.6% in 2016 and rental sales are up 8.9% to 199.423 and 21.3% share vs. 20.8% a year ago.

The Renault Mégane is up 40% to #2 overall. 

In the brands ranking, Renault is up 11% to a very dominant 8.6% share, distancing Peugeot up 3% to 7%, Volkswagen down a harsh 19% to 6.7% and Seat up 10% to 6.5%. As a result, Renault moves from #4 to #2 year-to-date, bypassing Volkswagen and Opel, up just 2% to #5 in September. Nissan (+11%) and Toyota (+10%) are the other double-digit gainers inside the Top 10 just as Ford struggles at -11%. Below, notice Hyundai up 10%, BMW up 16%, Fiat and Volvo up 17%, Mitsubishi up 23%, Suzuki up 29%, Alfa Romeo up 52% and Jeep up a whopping 105%.

The Seat Ateca hits a record 9th place at home in September. 

The Nissan Qashqai already enjoys the benefit of its facelift by taking the lead of the Spanish models ranking for the first time since November 2013 with sales up 22% year-on-year to 2.9% share, and now ranking #4 year-to-date. The Renault Mégane is up 10 spots on August to a splendid 2nd place overall and deliveries up 40% on September 2016. The VW Golf (-3%) rounds up the podium above the Seat Leon (-7%) while the YTD leader, the Seat Ibiza, is relegated to 5th place in spite of sales up 9%. #1 in August, the Dacia Sandero is down to #7 this month but still up 24% year-on-year.

First Top 100 ranking in Spain for the Citroen C3 Aircross. 

The Seat Ateca is up 66% to break into the Spanish Top 10 for the second time after last March and hit a record 9th place. Notice also the Peugeot 3008 up 10-fold on September 2016 and 14 spots on last month to #15, the Fiat 500X up 103% to #21, the BMW X1 up 68% to #27 and the Mercedes GLC up 43% to #36. Among other recent launches, the Opel Crossland X is up 16 ranks on August to #63, the Citroen C3 Aircross is up 132 to breaks into the Top 100 for the first time at #98, the Opel Grandland X lands at #141, the Seat Arona is up 28 spots to #183, the Kia Stinger arrives at #203 and the McLaren 720S at #282.
