Thanks to our partnership with CE Auto newsletter we can share with you today exclusive imported sales figures for Iran. Sales of imported vehicles are down 4% year-on-year in July to 5.420 units but shoot up 39% after seven months if 2017 to 53.266. This month, the Hyundai Sonata (+47%) is the most imported vehicle in the country, followed by the Lexus NX (+64%) and Toyota RAV4 (+156%). The Ssangyong Tivoli and Renault Captur round up the Top 5 while we welcome two new entrants in the Top 10: the GAZ Gazelle imported from Russia at #7 and the Toyota C-HR at #9 with a strong 4% share of all imports for the month.

The Hyundai Tucson replaces the Santa Fe as the most imported vehicle in Iran so far in 2017.

The year-to-date imports ranking is completely different, with the Hyundai Santa Fe (#1 in FY2016) down 54% and relinquishing its throne to its smaller sibling the Hyundai Tucson (+262%). The Lexus NX is up 120% and three spots to land in 2nd place, distancing the Ssangyong Tivoli up one rank and 109% to #3. The Renault Captur is up 137% to #5, the Renault Duster up 277% to #6, the Hyundai Sonata up 285% to #7, Renault Symbol up 388% to #8 and the Kia Sorento up 163% to #9. The Kia Optima (+55%) round up the Top 10, with the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Juke, Toyota Prius, Kia Cerato and Renault Talisman in tow.

Two Borgward BX7 have already been imported into Iran this year.

I have spoken about the odd situation that sees the 1987 Peugeot 405 still in production in Iran whereas the infinitely more modern Peugeot 301 still a faraway project. It turns out 255 Peugeot 301 were imported into Iran so far in 2017. If Chinese manufacturers prefer to penetrate the Iranian market by assembling local, there are still a few oddities in the imports sales ranking such as the Jinbei Haise (#32), Maxus V80 (#38), MG GT (#45), Haval H8 (#55), Joylong AS5 (#57), Borgward BX7 (#76), Kawei K1 (#79) and Zotye T600 (#96).
