Ukraine August 2017: RAV4 and Duster catch up on Sportage

The Toyota RAV4 is up 88% year-on-year in Ukraine in August.

The Ukrainian new car market is up 17.2% year-on-year in August to 6.598 registrations, returning the sales level to 2014 (6.402) and 90% above the August 2015 figure. Year-to-date, new car sales in Ukraine are up a round 30% on 2016 to 49.900 units, up 92% on 2015 but down 30% on 2014 and down 65% on 2013.

VW Tiguan sales are up 14-fold on August 2016 in Ukraine thanks to the new model.

In the brands ranking, the podium frankly outpaces the market with both Toyota and Renault up 28% while Volkswagen is up 27% and overtakes Kia to land in third place year-to-date also. In fact, the Top 8 brands for August exactly replicate the YTD order, with Skoda delivering the largest gain in the Top 10 at +73% followed by Nissan up 46%. Ford, down a harsh 42% on August 2016, is the only carmaker in the Top 12 to lose ground. Notice also Honda (+70%), Mitsubishi (+81%), Citroen (+86%), Porsche (+105%), Great Wall (+129%), Chery (+133%), Infiniti (+156%) and Seat (+282%) all posting spectacular year-on-year gains.

Chery sales are up 133% this month in Ukraine.

Model-wise, the Kia Sportage resist on top but sees its sales only advance by a meagre 1% year-on-year. Ion contrast, the Toyota RAV4 surges 88% and the Renault Duster soars 95% on the podium. The Skoda Octavia (+78%) at #5, the VW Tiguan up 14-fold on August 2016 at #7 and the Mazda CX-5 up 94% to #8 also impress inside the Top 10 where the Ravon R2 breaks into at #9. The SUV wave is totally engulfing the Ukrainian market with the Nissan Qashqai (+91%), Juke (+162%), Toyota Prado (+110%), Mitsubishi Outlander (+178%), Peugeot 3008 (+590%), Chery Tiggo (+170%) and Lexus RX (+64%) signing some of the largest gains inside the Top 50
