In a declining region, Lebanon new car sales actually manage to edge up 2% year-on-year over the First Half of 2017 to 25.291 units. Market leader Toyota improves at ten times the rate of the market with a splendid 20^% gain to lift its market share from 29.5% a year ago to 34.7% now. The rest of the Top 5 is all in negative: Kia (-5%), Nissan (-16%), Hyundai (-32%) and Renault (-13%). Suzuki (+13%), Chevrolet (+13%) and Mazda (+18%) also manage a gain in the Top 10 while we welcome Nissan’s low cost brand Datsun directly in 10th position with 2% of the Lebanese market. Further down, notice Porsche (+30%), Land Rover (+48%), Infiniti (+69%), GMC (+79%), Honda (+155%) and Opel (+700%) all posting spectacular gains.

Datsun lands directly among Lebanon’s 10 most successful brands in 2017.

The Lebanese models ranking is completely reshuffled compared to a year ago, taking a definite SUV air. The Toyota Prado takes the lead thanks to sales up a whopping 125% to a stunning 14.2% share and the Toyota Land Cruiser shoots up 78% to land in 2nd place with 10.6% of the market, The Kia Picanto (-11%) rounds up the podium whereas the Toyota Yaris, leader at the same stage last year, tumbles down 56% to #7. The Nissan Patrol is up 54% and 7 spots to #4 and the Kia Cerato is up 35% and 6 ranks to #9 but all other nameplates in the Top 10 lose volume year-on-year. The Datsun mi-DO is by far the most popular new launch, landing directly at #13 – Lebanon has cottoned on to the relaunch of the brand so far. The Nissan Kicks (#24), Toyota C-HR (#41) and Mazda CX-3 (#42) are the other newcomers in the Top 50.
