New light vehicle sales in Iraq are on the mend, up 12% year-on-year over the First Half of 2017 to 17.152 units. This total is in fact the sole work of the two best-selling manufacturers, without which the Iraqi market would be plunging down. Kia shoots up 52% to go from 37% of the market a year ago to 50.3% this year while Nissan is up 36% to step up from 13.8% to 16.8%. In contrast, Toyota declines 17% and is knocked down one spot to #3 and Hyundai pummels down 31%, also losing one rank to #4. BMW (+150%(, Suzuki (+70%) and GMC (+1109%) post robust gains on very low bases in 2016.

The Nissan Kicks lands at #15 in Iraq this year.

Model-wise, the Kia Frontier spectacularly doubles its sales year-on-year (+109%) to cement its pole position, now holding no less than one third of the Iraqi market. It distances the Toyota Hilux up 26% to #2, the Hyundai Tucson up 86% to #3 and the Nissan Sunny up 147% to #4. The Kia Sportage (-28%) and Toyota Land Cruiser (-42%) are in great difficulty but within the Top 10 the Kia Cerato (+81%), Nissan Patrol (+263%) and Chevrolet Tahoe (+195%) also impress. The Nissan Navara replaces the D22 Pickup and lands at #12 while the Nissan Kicks is also an instant success in Iraq, arriving directly at #15.
