Russia June 2017: Fourth consecutive YoY gain at +15%

Russia keeps aligning very encouraging results over the past few months and June is the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year gain and the largest so far at +15% to 141.084 registrations, the largest year-on-year gain since August 2012, propelling the year-to-date tally up 6.9% to 718.529 units. The brands ranking is extremely stable with the Top 12 unchanged on last month. The market growth is concentrated onto the most popular brand, with the Top 8 best-selling manufacturers all either outpacing or equalling the market. Leader Lada is strong with a 23% gain ahead of Kia (+31%), Hyundai (+22%), Renault (+21%) and Toyota (+28%). Ford (+24%) also shines at #10. Beyond the Top 10, notice Mazda (+29%), Datsun (+23%), Mitsubishi (+22%) and Chery (+56%) all posting solid gains. Among smaller brands, Zotye (+414%), Smart (+144%), Changan (+267%) and Isuzu (+118%) impress albeit from very low bases.

Model-wise, the Lada Granta reclaims the top spot for the first time since last December and only the third time in the past 12 months thanks to deliveries up a robust 18% to 6.1% share. In contrast, the Kia Rio is down 7% and the Hyundai Solaris down 14%: this is not what we got used to in the past year or so. The Lada Vesta is knocked down to #4 but gains 29% year-on-year while the Hyundai Creta continues to top the SUV charts albeit with its smallest share this year at 2.8% and only 89 units above the Renault Duster (+1%). The Toyota RAV4 shoots up 77% to #8, the Kia Sportage is up 72% to #11, the Lada XRAY up 54% but down 5 spots on May to #14, the VW Tiguan up 202% to #17, the Nissan Terrano up 55% to #22 and the Mazda CX-5 up 37% to #25. Yet SUVs don’t have the monopoly of spectacular gains: the Lada Kalina is up 49% and the Datsun on-DO up 77%.
