Turkey May 2017: Fiat Egea hits highest share, claims YTD lead

The Fiat Egea hits its best-ever market share “at home” in Turkey this month.

The Turkish new light vehicle market continues on its downward trend in May with sales declining 9% year-on-year to 85.422 units, with the year-to-date tally also down 9% to 347.277. Market leader Renault follows the market at -9% to 13.6% share but Ford leaps up two spots vs. April and YTD to 2nd place thanks to deliveries up 8% to 12.7% share, distancing Volkswagen down a worrying 14% to 12.5%, in line with its 16% decline year-to-date. Fiat (+7%) and Hyundai (+2%) manage a year-on-year gain inside the Top 5 with Peugeot (+41%) posting the largest increase in the Top 10 and Nissan also strong at +7%. Reversely, Dacia (-16%), Opel (-23%) and Toyota (-40%) struggle. Further down, Honda gains 70% thanks to the new Civic (+137%), Mitsubishi is up 14%, Karsan up 16% and Jaguar up 48%. Most other brands decline.

In the models ranking, the Fiat Egea surges 49% to hit its best-ever market share at 6.2%, and its advantage over the Renault Megane in 2nd place (1.369 units) allows it to claim the year-to-date lead for the first time this year at 14.927 units vs. 14.597 for the Megane. As a reminder, the Egea ended 2016 in pole position but was outsold by the Megane in the year-to-date rankings until last month, this due to the launch of the sedan variant replacing the Fluence. The Ford Courier (+14%) remains faithful to the third place it holds year-to-date, while the Ford Focus (+49%) and Hyundai i20 Troy (+32%) bring their respective manufacturers’ totals into positive while for market leader Renault the Clio suffers (-21%) but the Symbol is solid (+19%). Further down, notice the Citroen Berlingo up 170% and the Peugeot 3008 up 18-fold year-on-year (!) thanks to the new model. Among recent launches, the Toyota C-HR is down 19 spots on last month to #50, the Skoda Kodiaq up 181 to #62 and the Audi Q2 up 11 to #96.
