Spain February 2017: Market growth slows to +0.1%

The Spanish new car market edges up just 0.2% year-on-year in February to 98.285 registrations – the largest February score since pre-recession  2008, lifting the year-to-date tally up 4.7% to 183.296, also the highest since 2008. In the brands ranking, Seat reclaims the top spot thanks to sales up 19% to 9.425 and 9.6% share, distancing Opel (+5%), Volkswagen (-14%) and Peugeot (-12%). Fiat (+16%), Suzuki (+38%), Jaguar (+44%), Abarth (+90%), Maserati (+138%), Infiniti (+175%) and Tesla (+633%) all post impressive year-on-year gains. Like in January, Seat monopolises the top two spots in the models ranking with the Ibiza (+9%) at #1 and the Leon (+3%) at #2. The Opel Corsa (+36%), Nissan Qashqai (+46%) and Opel Astra (+45%) follow, all bypassing the VW Golf (-2%). The Renault Clio gains 33% to #7, the Peugeot 2008 is up 40% to #10, the Opel Mokka up 28% to #11, the Citroen C3 up 43% to #15 and the Renault Mégane up 77% to #16. The Fiat 500X is up a gigantic 170% to #20, while the Seat Ateca (#21), Peugeot 3008 II (#29) and Toyota C-HR (#33) lead new launched.
