Canada January 2017: FCA tops market up 2.3%

The Jeep Cherokee ranks inside the Canadian Top 10 in January.

After four consecutive annual records, new vehicle sales in Canada improve further in this start of 2017 with a 2.3% year-on-year gain to 111.199 units. FCA Fiat Chrsyler Automobiles follows the market at +2.1% and reclaims the top spot in the group ranking with 14.7% share, distancing Ford Motor at 13.7% (+3.5%) and General Motors at 11.6% (+1.5%). Toyota Motor (+1.1%) and Honda Motor (+1.5%) are the other two manufacturers with five-digit sales figures in Canada this month while Hyundai-Kia drops 8.5% to just 9.334 units. Daimler (+28.4%) and Jaguar-Land Rover (+21.6%) post spectacular gains. Brand-wise, Ford dominates as usual, beating the market with a 3.6% gain ahead of Toyota (+3.3%), Honda (+1.9%) and Chevrolet (+3.9%). Ram (-9.6%) and Hyundai (-10.6%) struggle in the Top 10 while Dodge gains 10.9%. Fruitier down, notice Mazda (+18.5%), Audi (+28.1%), Mercedes (+28.9%), Buick (+40.4%), Porsche (+43.6%), Jaguar (+253.5%), Fiat (+272%) and Maserati (+542.1%).

Ford Explorer sales are up 57% year-on-year this month. 

Model-wise, the Ford F-Series is the only nameplate in positive in the Top 4, outpacing the market at +5% to 9.303 units, ahead of the Ram Pickup (-12%), Honda Civic (-10%) and GMC Sierra (-9%). The Chevrolet Silverado leaps up 6 spots on December to #5, making it four full-size pickups inside the Top 5. Similarly to the U.S., the Honda CR-V (+40%) and Nissan Rogue (+30%) surge to lead the SUV charts ahead of the Toyota RAV4 (+8%) while the Jeep Cherokee jumps four ranks on last month to #9, the nameplate’s third ever time immunised the Top 10 after December 2015 (#9) and January 2016 (#8). All biggest gains inside the Top 40 are the works of SUVs: the Mazda CX-5 (+24%), Hyundai Tucson (+34%), Dodge Journey (+24%), Chevrolet Equinox (+42%), Toyota Highlander (+33%), Ford Explorer (+57%), GMC Terrain (+33%) and Kia Sportage (+74%)… Finally, we welcome the Hyundai Ioniq (#224) and Chevrolet Bolt (#250) into the Canadian sales charts this month.
