Excellent year for the Bulgarian new car market, up 10% to 32.691 registrations. Note Bulgarian sales figures are skewed by re-exports to other European Union countries, with a large portion of new car sales in the country never making it to local roads – as much as 30% – thanks to Bulgaria displaying some of the lowest car prices in the EU. See here for more on this phenomenon. In this context, French-Romanian brand Dacia remains the most popular brand in the country – after dropping to #2 YTD in November – with sales up 6% to 3.914, just above parent brand Renault up 19% to 3.778. Skoda (+105), Toyota (+12%) and Volkswagen (-2%) round up the Top 5 while Nissan (+14%), Ford (+15%) and Peugeot (+23%) post very dynamic gains inside the Top 10. Further down, notice Lexus (+35%), Land Rover (+36%), Suzuki (+39%), Seat (+49%), Lada (+62%), Alfa Romeo (+163%) and Jaguar (+275%) all taking off.

The Nissan NP300 is the best-selling all-new nameplate in Bulgaria for 2016.

The Bulgarian models ranking sees the fourth consecutive year of reign for the Dacia Dokker, up 8% to 1.716 sales, followed like last year by the Nissan Qashqai (+34%) while the Skoda Octavia and Renault Clio, both up 28%, gain one spot each to land at #3 and #4 respectively. The victim: the Renault Captur down 15% and two ranks to #5,  The Renault Group makes it five nameplates inside the Top 7 with the Dacia Sandero at #6 and the Duster at #7. Excellent year for the Skoda Fabia (+25%) and Toyota Corolla (+33%) while outside the Top 10 let’s single out the Opel Astra (+58%), Peugeot 308 (+45%), Renault Kadjar up 263% to break into the Top 20 for its first full year in market, the Lada Niva up 49% despite its old age (38 years!), the Mazda CX-3 up 115% to #49 and Suzuki Vitara up 136% to #52. The most popular all-new nameplates are the Nissan NP300 (#116), Suzuki Baleno (#117), Toyota C-HR (#127) and Jaguar F-Pace (#132).
