Poland Full Year 2016: Opel Astra catches up with Skoda Octavia, Fabia

Excellent year for new light vehicle sales in Poland: up 17% on 2015 to 475.738 units including LCVs. Traditionally very stable, the Polish brands ranking makes no exception in 2016 with the Top 8 best-seller in the exact same order as last year. Skoda (11.3% share) and Volkswagen (10%) both gain slightly more ground than the market at +18%, increasing the gap with their followers Toyota (+14%), Opel (+17%) and Ford (+15%). Renault (+22%), Dacia (+29%), Mercedes (+31%), BMW (+31%) and Mazda (+20%) also beat the market inside the Top 15.

Skoda Octavia Poland 2016The Skoda Octavia ends the year in pole position for the 7th time in Poland.

The Skoda Octavia remains the best-selling nameplate in the country thanks to sales up 19% to 16.967, reaching #1 for the third year in a row and the 7th time overall, a reign it started in 2009, only interrupted in 2013 by the Skoda Fabia. Speaking of which, the Fabia gains 25% to get closer to pole position at 15.483 but the most impressive growth in the Top 10 is delivered by the Opel Astra up 39% to overtake the VW Golf and land on the podium at 14.819 sales. It even ranked #1 in December. The VW Passat is up two spots to #8, the Dacia Duster up 4 and 32% to slide into the Top 10 at #10, the Nissan Qashqai up 21%, Renault Master up 20% and Hyundai Tucson up 220% to end its first full year in market at #15.

Other great gainers in 2016 in Poland include the Skoda Superb (+56%), Iveco Daily (+57%), Renault Megane (+29%), VW Tiguan (+53%), Mercedes Sprinter (+53%), Dacia Sandero (+46%), Renault Captur (+39%) and VW Golf Sportsvan (+53%) while the Fiat Tipo is the most popular all-new nameplate in the country, landing directly at #47 and peaking at #19 in November.
