Philippines Full Year 2016: Toyota Vios leads, Fortuner shines in 7th consecutive record year

New vehicle sales in the Philippines manage an unbelievable 7th consecutive year thanks to deliveries shooting up 25% year-on-year in 2016 to 404.051 units. Market leader Toyota manages to beat the market with sales up 27% to 158.058, improving its already mammoth share to 39.1%. Mitsubishi remains in 2nd place – its highest ranking in the world – but sees its share thaw from 16.3% to just 13.1% due to sales up only 13%. Hyundai is the best-performing carm aker in the Top 15 with a 53% surge landing the Korean brand on the podium – it ranked 5th in 2015. It knocks Ford (+33%) and Isuzu (+21%) one spot down. Nissan (+48%), Suzuki (+37%), Hino (+43%), Fuso (+37%) and Volkswagen (+76%) beat the market while we welcome Chinese carmaker Foton at #12.

Toyota monopolises the first six spots in the 2016 models ranking. The Toyota Vios celebrates nine consecutive years in the Filipino pole position but only gains 9%, seeing its market share drop from 10.2% to 9%. The big winner is the Toyota Fortuner, up 81% and two spots to #2 thanks to the new generation, distancing the Hiace (+19%), Wigo (+37%), Innova (+7%) and Avanza (+59%). The best-selling non-Toyota is the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 ahead of the Isuzu MU-X and Ford Everest, up 152% to break into the Top 10 for its first full year at #8. The Toyota Hilux (+42%) makes it seven Toyotas in the Top 10, the Hyundai Accent (+79%) misses out on a Top 10 ranking for just 45 sales, the Honda Mobilio is up 62% and the Hyundai Tucson up 107%. We welcome the Honda BR-V at #45 and the Mazda CX-3 at #55.
