Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can share with you today detailed sales for England in 2016. Keep in mind this is a zoom in for each UK nation, these figures are already included in the UK Full Year 2016 Report. The new car market in England is up 2.7% year-on-year in 2016 to 2.315.554 registrations, representing 86% of the overall UK market. Most UK company leasing and rental car purchases are centralised in England, impacting the English sales charts and removing them somewhat from what ‘real’ consumers buy compared to UK’s other nations. Given the weight of the English market within the UK, the models ranking is traditionally and logically very similar to the UK one. In 2016 there is one notable exception among the Top 10 best-sellers: below the Ford Fiesta (-9%) and Vauxhall Corsa (-16%), the VW Golf manages to step up one spot on 2015 to overtake the Ford Focus and land on the podium fir the first time in the nameplate’s career, selling 61.303 units.
