In a country still torn apart by civil war, Yemeni new car sales implode by 82% year-on-year over the first 7 months of 2016, going from 6.709 units in 2015 to just 1.221. Toyota leads the sales charts again but sees its market share thaw dramatically from an incredible 80.1% a year ago to 45.9% so far in 2016 due to deliveries freefalling 90%. In contrast, Nissan is up 42% to 14.7% share, BMW up 36% to 10.8%, Jeep up 205% to 10.2% and Land Rover up 76% to 9.7%… Hyundai, #2 a year ago, disappears from the ranking altogether, while Lexus (4 sales) and Isuzu (2) almost do the same. Model-wise, Toyota has suspended sales of the Hilux – #1 in 2015 – and as a result the Land Cruiser Pickup takes the lead despite deliveries down 68% to 391 and 32% share. The Nissan Patrol (+82%), Jeep Grand Cherokee (+443%) and Range Rover Sport (+193%) follow.
