Austria August 2016: VW Tiguan (+45%) catches up on Golf (-39%)

The Austrian new car market is up 4% year-on-year in August to 23.690 registrations, lifting the year-to-date tally up 5% to 222.342 units. Volkswagen stays in the brands lead despite sales plunging 13% to 4.046 and 17.1% share. It distances Opel (+14%), BMW (+22%) and Skoda (+26%) with Seat (+60%) and Mercedes (+50%) lodging the largest year-on-year gains inside the Top 10. Outside, notice Toyota (+42%), Dacia (+56%), Honda (+44%), Land Rover (+84%) and Jaguar (+93%) all posting spectacular gains. Model-wise, the VW Golf remains the best-seller in the country but freefalls 39% on August 2015 to 1.099 sales whereas the VW Tiguan, boosted by the new generation, is up 45% to 869 units. The Skoda Octavia (+5%), Skoda Fabia (+61%) and Opel Astra (+123%) follow with the Audi A4 (+181%) and Seat Ibiza (+100%) also surging up. The VW Sharan,, Bus and Seat Leon make it an incredible 9 VW Group nameplates in the August Austrian Top 10. The BMW X1 is up 11-fold on the previous model a year ago to land at #11, the Hyundai Tucson is up 42% to #15, the Mercedes C-Class up 68% to #21 and the Dacia Sandero up 67% to #30.
