The Romanian new car market gains a solid 17% year-on-year in January to 5.800 registrations and 24% in February to 5.099 sales, lifting the year-to-date total to 10.899 units after two months, up 20% on the same period in 2015. Market leader and home brand Dacia slightly underperforms the market at +15% to 3.281 sales over the period, resulting in a reduced 39.1% market share. Volkswagen (+22%) overtakes Skoda (+6%) for second place overall with Ford (+51%) and Renault (+32%) in tow and both posting aggressive increases. BMW (+26%), Fiat (+44%), Peugeot (+76%), Kia (+64%), Mazda (+54%) and Suzuki (+267%) also impress.

January models highlights include the Dacia Dokker shooting up to a best-ever 2nd place overall with 370 sales and 6.4% share and in February Dacia manages to place four models inside the Top 5 for the first time in its history at home: the Logan (#1), Duster (#2), Sandero (#4) and Dokker (#5). After two months, the Dacia Logan is still the runaway leader, even beating the market at +22% to a round 20% share. It is followed by a Dacia Duster in difficulty (-23%), a Skoda Octavia losing share (+8%) and a Dacia Dokker up 3-fold on the same period last year. The Suzuki Vitara (#13), Hyundai Tucson (#16), Mercedes GLE (#18) and GLC (#29) lead newcomers (February rankings).
