No sign of improvement for the Kazakh market, on the contrary: new car sales are down 54% year-on-year in November to 6.261 units, pulling the year-to-date total down 40% to just 90.971 deliveries. The reasons behind this market collapse are multiple, among which the depressed economy in neighbouring Russia and a new flow of grey market imports from Russia that has had a nefarious impact on the health of the Kazakh market. In the brands ranking, logically Lada is among the worse hit by the crisis – as their dealer network has been hit full-frontal by grey imports from Russia. The Russian carmaker is still the #1 brand in Kazakhstan, but at only 14.7% share it is under intense pressure from Uz-Daewoo (14.3%) with Renault also strong at 12.3%. For reference, one year ago in November 2014 Lada held 27.8% of the Kazakh market, Uz-Daewoo 6.6% and Renault 5%.
Model-wise, the main event this month is the historical accession to the year-to-date pole position of the Hyundai Accent thanks to 400 sales and 6.4% share this month, lifting the nameplate to 7.119 units and 7.8% vs. a very weak 196 and 3.1% (#12) for the Lada Granta adding up to just 6.959 sales after 11 months. In fact, the best-selling Lada in Kazakhstan this month is the Priora at a paltry 9th place. Uz-Daewoo manages a first-ever one-two with the Gentra at #1 (6.7%) and the Nexia at #2 (6.4%). Notice also the Renault Sandero up to #4 and the Toyota Hilux up to #15.
