The Malaysian new car market is up 3% year-on-year in October to 55.754 registrations, yet the year-to-date total is still in negative territory at -1% to 541.142 units. Perodua continues to lead the brands charts head-and-shoulders at 31% share despite sales down 2% to 17.305, and this month both Toyota (+14%) and Honda (+37%) overtake the other local carmaker Proton, down 1% to a dismal 14.4% share vs. 16.1% year-to-date. If Perodua places three nameplates inside the Top 4 (Axia, Myvi and Alza), Proton only has two in the Top 12 (Saga and Iriz). Mazda (+31%), Mercedes (+28%), BMW (+10%), Lexus (+38%) and Subaru (+50%) all post spectacular gains. The models ranking, exclusive to BSCB, is relatively stable with the Perodua Axia ultra-dominant again at 15.4%, the Top 4 identical to last month, the Toyota Vios overtaking the Honda City for the title of best-selling foreigner and the Honda HR-V reaching a record 5% market share thanks to 2.762 sales in 7th place.
