After years of stagnation, the Swiss new car market is on a roll, posting a fourth consecutive month of double-digit gains in September at +10% year-on-year to 24.137 registrations. This lifts the year-to-date total up 9% to 239.594 units. Volkswagen loses market share with sales up just 1% to 2.738, above Mercedes (+20%), Skoda (+8%), BMW (-16%) and Peugeot up a flamboyant 56%. Notice also Opel up 16%, Ford up 19%, Hyundai up 12%, Mazda up 27%, Mitsubishi up 53% and Jeep up 73%. In the models ranking, below the unbeatable VW Golf (4.6% share) and Skoda Octavia (3.9%), the Peugeot 2008 is the surprise of the month, up a whopping 78 ranks on August to simply and brilliantly land on the podium in third position, its best-ever ranking outside of France.
