Romania August 2015: Dacia monopolises podium again

Nothing is getting in the way of the Romanian new car market’s slow but steady recovery: sales are up 15% year-on-year in August to 7.362, lifting the year-to-date total to 51.087 units, up 11% on 2014. Exactly one in every 3 new light vehicle sales in Romania this month are branded Dacia, with the domestic manufacturer once again outperforming its home market at +16% to 2.450 sales and 33.3% share. It is followed by Volkswagen surging 29% and overtaking Skoda to rank #2. Ford, Opel (both at -7%) and Renault (+5%) follow with weak score whereas Mercedes (+25%), Toyota (+43%), BMW, (+41%), Audi (+53%), Kia (+183%), Suzuki (+64%) and Nissan (+53%) take off, all ranking within the Top 15 best-selling brands.

Dacia monopolises the models podium for the third consecutive month with the Logan at 21.2% share followed by the Duster (5.2% vs. 7.3% year-to-date) and the Sandero (5% vs. 3.7%). The Skoda Octavia is the most popular foreigner in the country as usual at #4 above the VW Golf up 8 spots to #5. The VW Jetta is up 3 ranks to #8, the Opel Antara up 22 to #17 and among recent launches the Suzuki Vitara is up 17 spots on July to #15, the Renault Kadjar up 14 to #34 and both the Mercedes GLE (+74 to #42) and the Hyundai Tucson (+109 to #48) break into the Czech Top 50 for their 2nd appearance.
