Germany June 2015: Mercedes C-Class and Skoda Octavia shoot up

Like the rest of Europe, the German new car market enjoys strong gains in June at +12% to 313.539 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total halfway through 2015 to 1.618.949 units, up 5% or 80.000 sales on 2014. Volkswagen follows the market at +13% yet its market share is frankly below its YTD level at 20.3%, Mercedes (+22%) and Audi (+23%) show brilliant improvements but BMW (+4%) is passed by Opel (+9%) even though both manufacturers lose market share vs. a year ago. Seat gains two spots on May to rank 8th overall with 10.448 sales, Mini is up 43% to #18, Mitsubishi up 116% to #20, Smart up 74% to #22, Land Rover up 60% to #25, Jeep up 56% to #27, Tesla up 120% to #31 and Ssangyong up 207% to #32.

Over in the models ranking, the VW Golf flies up 20% year-on-year to 23.742 sales and 7.6% share above the VW Passat pushed up 56% to 9.416 units and 3% thanks to the new generation and the Mercedes C-Class up an even more impressive 79% to 7.468 deliveries, knocking the VW Polo (+12%) down to #4. The Skoda Octavia is up 23% to land in 5th place, the nameplate’s highest ever monthly ranking in Germany, also hit in September and December 2013. The Opel Astra, now in runout mode before the arrival of the new generation, sticks to the 6th spot to reached last month vs. #10 year-to-date. The Ford Fiesta (+40%) and Audi A4 (+57%) also shine inside the Top 10.

Outside the Top 10 best-sellers, the Mini is up 9 spots on May to #13, the BMW 2 Series lodges its second-ever German Top 20 ranking after last February (#16) at #17 and 4.202 sales, the Seat Ibiza is up 67% year-on-year and 10 ranks on May to #20, the Opel Mokka is up 63% to #23, the BMW X1 up 85% to #24, Hyundai ix35 up 65% to #30, VW Sharan up 75% to #31 and the Mercedes V Class, one month after breaking into the German Top 50 for the first time at #48, improves its record ranking by 10 ranks to #38.

As far as recent launches are concerned, two nameplates make their grand entrance inside the German Top 100 this month: the Opel Karl is up 114 spots on last month to #82 with 1.142 sales and the Mazda CX-3 is up 118 ranks to #93 with a round 800 deliveries. Further down, the Renault Kadjar is up a spectacular 141 spots to #112 with 673 units, the Land Rover Discovery Sport is up 16 to #150, the Jaguar XE lands at #185 with 198 sales, the Ssangyong Tivoli appears at #245 with 37 units and the Honda HR-V arrives at #264 with 20 deliveries for now.
