Cargiant celebrates Volkswagen

Volkswagen has a great history of selling millions of vehicles across the world in a plethora of car models. On February 17, 1972 Volkswagen claimed that the previous holder of the record for most cars sold, the Ford Model T, had been overtaken by the Volkswagen beetle after they manufactured over 15 million of them! This number has now risen to 21 million.

The Volkswagen brand have also become a national bestseller of cars in various countries. In Brazil, the Volkswagen Gol is the best-seller of the past 3 decades, having sold over 4.5 million cars, in China, over 1.6 million Volkswagen Santanas have been sold and in Germany they have managed to sell an astronomical 25 million Volkswagen Golfs.

Volkswagen is currently ranked third in worldwide sales with only Toyota and GM sitting above them. However, Volkswagen recently stated that by 2018 they intend to become the world’s top selling car maker. A feat they could quite realistically achieve, especially considering in 2011 they broke a record of selling the most vehicles in a first yearly quarter by selling 1.2 million of them.

Take a look at the infographic below outlining the history of the Volkswagen company, made by Cargiant, who are the world’s largest used car supermarket.
