JATO Dynamics didn’t publish their traditional ‘teaser’ Top Tenners this month so it’s straight to the complete rankings with the traditional one month delay. The European new car market continues to recover from 7 dark years of recession: celebrating 20 consecutive months of year-on-year gains in April at a solid +7% to 1.200.717 and +8% to 4.817.100 so far in 2015. Volkswagen follows the market atop the brands ranking (+6%) while Ford (+2%) is under pressure from Renault (+16%) for the overall 2nd spot with only 938 units separating the two manufacturers.

The Ford Fiesta, VW Polo and Opel Corsa rounds up the Top 5 with the Ford Focus brilliantly staying at #6 despite the comedown from March sales traditionally boosted by UK license plate changes. But the hero of the month in the European Top 10 is the VW Passat, up 45% year-on-year and 10 spots on March to 7th place, its best ranking in Europe since February 2012 and allowing it a #11 spot year-to-date only 1.157 units below the Skoda Octavia which was just passed by the Audi A3.
