The Austrian new car market is stuck in muddy waters this year: down 1.7% year-on-year in May to 26.517 registrations which brings the year-to-date total to 131.171 units, down 5% on 2014. Volkswagen remains the most popular brand in the country by far despite sales down 4% to 4.429 and 16.7% market share. Opel is up a splendid 17% on May 2014 to 2.251 units and 8.5%, snatching the 2nd spot year-to-date away from Skoda, down 16% to #3 this month. Seat is up a stunning 47% year-on-year to 4th place overall, placing 3 models in the Top 16: the Ibiza (#8), Altea (#13) and Leon (#16) vs. 3 in the Top 59 at home in Spain… Notice also Fiat up 24% to #11, Suzuki up 36% to #19 and Jeep up 123% to #22.

In the models ranking, the VW Golf reigns once again with 1.637 sales and 6.2% share, followed like in the year-to-date ranking by the Skoda Octavia at 684 units and 2.6%. However in third place is the Fiat 500, up two spots on April and to be compared to #12 over the Full Year 2014 (#6 so far in 2015) with one main explanation: 500X sales aren’t separated from the overall 500 nameplate in Austria. The Opel Astra is up 6 spots on last month to #4 and up a brilliant 74% year-on-year so far in 2015, with the Skoda Fabia up 42%, the Opel Corsa also up 74% and the VW Passat up 36%.
