Canada April 2015: No end to record run in sight

Nothing can stop Canadians from buying new cars in record numbers this year: April sales are up a further 6% year-on-year to 189.216 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to an all-time high 557.931 units after 4 months, up 4% on the same period last year which was already a record at the time.  General Motors snaps the groups pole position away from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles just for this month at 29.127 units and 15.4% share vs. 27.473 and 14.5% but FCA remains in the lead so far in 2015 at 89.298 deliveries (+1%) vs. 78.277 (-3%) for Ford Motor Co and 75.537 (+6%) for GM. Hyundai-Kia (11.5%) and Toyota Motor (10.9%) maintain themselves above 10% share. In the brands ranking, Ford and Toyota remain sovereign but Chevrolet leaps past Hyundai and Honda to land in third place. GMC surges 30% year-on-year to #7 overall, Jeep is up 22%, Volkswagen up 13%, Subaru up 17%, Chrysler up 22%, Mercedes up 27%, Lexus up 32%, BMW and Audi both up a fantastic 37%, Porsche up 48% and Mini up 58%.

In the models ranking, both the Ford F-Series (-5%) and Ram Pickup (-3%) lose ground on April 2014 but remain in the lead above the Honda Civic (+21%), Toyota Corolla (-3%) and GMC Sierra (+20%). Notable improvements inside the Top 50 include the Toyota RAV4 up 34% year-on-year to #10, the Chevrolet Cruze up 6 spots on March to #11, the Jeep Cherokee up 60%, the VW Golf up 8-fold (!) to #24, the Kia Sorento up 62%, Ford Edge up 65%, Chrysler 200 up 235%, Chevrolet Malibu up 98%, Nissan Micra up 517% and Subaru Outback up 66%. The Ford Transit is back up 33 ranks on last month to break into the Canadian Top 50 for the first time at #41, the Lexus NX is up 6 to #84, the Porsche Macan is up 24 to #129, helping lifting Porsche to its best month ever in Canada (690 deliveries) and the Jeep Renegade is up 103 ranks to #154 for its first full month in market.
