Egypt Full Year 2014: Chevrolet TFR edges out Hyundai Verna

After a tumultuous year in 2013, the Egyptian new vehicle market is back on track in 2014 with sales back up a massive 50% to 292.893 registrations. Big event atop the models ranking: thanks to a bumper month of December (10.9% share), the Chevrolet TFR, nicknamed “El Dabbabah” here (“The Tank”), edges into pole position, ending 4 consecutive years of Hyundai Verna domination with 24,892 sales (+37%) vs. 24,281 (+25%). In 2014 Nissan resumed communicating sales data for Egypt and has the new generation Sunny landing directly on the podium with 5.7% share, knocking the Geely Emgrand 7 down to #4 despite sales up 60% to just under 15,000 units.

Other notable improvements in Egypt this year include the Hyundai ix35 up 180% to #8, the Renault Logan Sedan up 58% to #12 but peaking at an outstanding 2nd place in December, the Skoda Octavia up 142% to #14, Hyundai Accent RB up 155% to #15, Mitsubishi Lancer EX up 8-fold to #17 and the Peugeot 301 more than doubling its sales on 2013 to crack the Top 20. The most popular all-new nameplate is the Hyundai Grand i10 imported from India and landing directly just outside the Top 50 at #51, followed by the Mitsubishi Attrage at #52, Suzuki New Alto 800 at #54 and Chevrolet new Optra at #62.
