Hong Kong (China) Full Year 2014: Toyota monopolises podium

New vehicle sales in Hong Kong are up a solid 10% year-on-year in 2014 to 53,270 registrations, dominated once again by Toyota improving its market share to 22.1% thanks to sales up 20% to 11,753. The podium is unchanged on 2013 with Mercedes holding the #2 spot with a stellar 12.5% share (+9%) ahead of BMW down a harsh 16% to 9.2%. Isuzu leaps forward 65% and 4 spots to #4 and 7.1%, passing Volkswagen (-13%), Audi (+8%), Honda (+7%) and Nissan (+8%). Notice also Hino up 72%, Mazda up 49%, Ford up 74% and Kia up 66%.

Toyota flamboyantly monopolises the models podium in Hong Kong this year, with the Hiace in pole position for the 2nd year running thanks to sales up 33% to 3,096, far above the Noah up 56% to 1,803 and the legendary Crown LPG Taxi enjoying a second life at 1,669 deliveries in 2014, three times the 2013 figure. #1 in 2012, the Mercedes E-Class is down 19% to #4 this year, while its über-luxury counterpart the S-Class is up sixfold on 2013 to an incredible 7th spot with 1.223 sales, undoubtedly the nameplate’s best ranking in the world this year.

Further down, notice the Mercedes CLA up tenfold on 2013 to land at #12 for its first full year in market, the BMW X5 up 86% to #20, Audi A3 up 161% to #23 and the BMW 4 Series up fivefold to #24. The Lexus NX is the most successful all-new nameplate of 2014 in Hong Kong, landing directly at #49 and peaking at #8 in October. It is followed by the Mercedes GLA (#63), Maserati Ghibli (#65), BMW i3 (#68) and Porsche Macan (#70).
