No sign of slowing down for the Danish new car market: with annual sales up 4% on 2013, it lodges a 4th consecutive all-time record year at 189,051 registrations. No other European market is enjoying such a state of grace this year. Volkswagen remains the most popular manufacturer drops 1.2 percentage point to 12.2% share while Peugeot is up a fantastic 29% to 2nd place and 9.6% of the market, boosted by the success of the 308 (+159%) and the all-new 108 landing directly at #18. Ford is kicked down to #3, Skoda overtakes Toyota to rank #4 and Nissan replaces Opel in the Top 10 thanks to sales up 27%.

2014 is the year low-cost brand Dacia finally made its mark in Denmark with sales up fourfold to 2,812 units thanks to the introduction of the Logan MCV (#49) and Duster (#65). Mitsubishi goes from virtually nowhere (86 sales in 2013) to blockbuster (2,263 units in 2014) with the Space Star clocking up 1,709 deliveries and the ASX up 1911% to 362 sales. Notice also Tesla up 311%, Smart up 148%, Porsche up 85%, Jaguar up 69% and Jeep up 1200%, coming off just one sale in 2013.

Despite a clear deceleration (-22%), the VW Up maintains itself on top of the Danish sales charts for the third year in a row with 10,106 sales and 5.3% share. The Up remains the only model in the history of automobile in Denmark to sell over 10,000 units in a single year and it has achieved this feat for the third time this year after 2013 (12.909) and 2012 (10.632). The next best score was hit by the the Toyota Carina in 1994 (9,635 units). The Peugeot 208 is unaffected by the arrival of the 2008 here, up two spots to #2 with the Skoda Octavia rounding up the podium thanks to sales up a magnificent 53% to 5,406.

Mitsubishi ASX 2014Mitsubishi ASX sales are up 1911% year-on-year in Denmark.

With the Toyota Aygo down 15% to #4, the Citroen C1 up 1% to #7, the Peugeot 107 down 34% to #17 and its replacement the 108 at #18, the Kolin triplets add up to another astounding 16,190 sales for a world-best 8.6% share, up 3% year-on-year. This was almost enough to beat the Bratislava triplets (VW Up-Skoda Citigo-Seat Mii) down a harsh 24% to 16,389 units and 8.7% share. All-in-all the two families of microcars hold 17.3% of the Danish market, a share unheard of anywhere else in the world. Other notable developments in Denmark this year include the VW Golf up 24% and 5 spots to #5, the Renault Captur up 179% to #20, Hyundai i10 up 49% to #21, Nissan Note up 82% to #31, Peugeot 2008 up 115% to #33 and the Mazda3 up 171% to #36.
