Germany June 2014: VW Golf, Passat and Audi A3 on top

New car sales in Germany are down 2% year-on-year in June to 277,614 registrations, and as the biggest market in the continent, this means the European recovery everyone is talking about is still a little shaky for now. Year-to-date, Germany is up 2% to 1,538,268 units. In the models ranking, the podium is unchanged on last month with the VW Golf in the lead (-13%) ahead of the VW Passat (-9%) and Audi A3 (-2%) while the BMW 3 Series is up one spot on May to #4 in spite of sales down a harsh 13% on June 2013. The VW Polo returns to its traditional 5th spot just above the Opel Corsa boosted by runout prices for the old generation (+21%). The Ford Focus also does very strong business this month, up 19% year-on-year in 7th place.

Other great June performers in Germany include the BMW 1 Series up 10 ranks to #8, the VW Up up to #11 vs. #17 year-to-date, the Skoda Fabia up to #14 vs. #22, Seat Leon up a spectacular 38% year-on-year at #17, the Hyundai i30 up 11 spots to #23 and most popular ‘true’ foreigner in the country (that is if you remove Skoda and Seat nameplates), the Fiat 500 up 20% to #27, Ford Kuga at #29, Hyundai i20 up 86% to #31 and BMW X3 up 33 ranks on May to #36.

Brand-wise, below Volkswagen (-15%) and Mercedes (-8%), BMW climbs back from #6 in May to third place with sales up 7% year-on-year to 22,729 units and 8.2% share, overtaking Audi (-6%), Opel (up a splendid 11%) and Ford (-5%). Skoda remains 7th with a strong 16,851 sales and 6.1% share vs. 5.7% year-to-date, Hyundai is up two spots on May to #8 with 4% share vs. 3.1% so far in 2014, Renault is up a spectacular 39% to 9,685 sales, Seat up 14%, Fiat up 8%, Nissan and Dacia up 9%, Mitsubishi up 18%, Land Rover up 22%, Jaguar up 21% and Maserati up 272%.
