The Danish new car market cannot stop amazing: it lodges a third consecutive all-time record year in 2013 thanks to 182,198 registrations, up 7% on 2012. And there is one winner and one winner only this year in Denmark: the VW Up. It completely dominated the sales charts in 2013, ranking #1 each and every single month of the year – an incredible achievement in a very volatile Danish market, peaking at a record 10.4% share in January and finishing the year with 12,909 sales and 7.1% share, up a very robust 21% on 2012. Never before had a single model sold that many units in a single year in Denmark, eclipsing the record the Up set at 10,632 last year, with the third best annual volume delivered by the Toyota Carina in 1994 (9,635 units).

Skoda Citigo Denmark 2013The Skoda Citigo ranks at a world-best #3 in Denmark in 2013.

Danish customers are obsessed with micro-cars: the Up’s twins also deliver world-best performances in Denmark this year: the Skoda Citigo is up 55% on 2012 to climb onto the year-end podium at #3 with 6,015 sales and 3.3% (vs #10 at home in Czech Republic) while the Seat Mii is up 39% to #21 at 2,560 units and 1.4% (vs. #105 in Spain). In 2nd place overall like in 2012 the Toyota Aygo is down 12% to 6,271 sales and 3.4%, with the Peugeot 107 at #7 with 2.7% and the Citroen C1 at #9 with 2.5%. This means the Kolin triplets (Aygo/C1/107) add up to 15,753 sales and 8.6% this year (-7%) vs. 21.484 and 11.8% share for the Bratislava triplets (Up/Citigo/Mii), up 31% year-on-year. These two families account for more than one in every 5 vehicles sold in Denmark this year!

Outstanding performance of the VW Golf doubling its sales year-on-year thanks to the 7th generation at #10 with 4,190 sales, the Ford Ka up 110% to #11, Skoda Octavia up a huge 143% to #13, Nissan Qashqai up 52% to #17 and the Audi A3 up 82% to #25. No less than 11 all-new models make their way in this year’s Top 150, led by the Renault Captur at #56, Peugeot 2008 at #60, Opel Adam at #68, Dacia Lodgy at #81 and Seat Toledo at #97. Finally, notice the Tesla Model S landing at #125 and the Renault Zoe at #132.
