Full October data is starting to drip through and Finland is the first cab off the rank this month. New car sales in Finland are up a very satisfying 11% year-on-year in October to 8,985 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 88,989 units, now down just 7% on 2012. The Skoda Octavia is the best-selling model in the country for the 4th time in the last 5 months thanks to 611 sales and an excellent 6.8% share, and gains one spot year-to-date to now rank #2 at 3,900 units and 4.4%, behind only the VW Golf at 4,218 sales and 4.7%. There is still a slim possibility the Octavia could take the overall lead by the time 2013 comes to an end but it will be a challenge as the Golf is still selling very well, #2 this month at 521 units and 5.8%.
The Toyota Auris also shines, up one spot on September to land on the podium with 482 sales and 5.4%, it also gains one rank year-to-date, passing its big brother the Avensis to become Toyota’s best-seller so far in 2013 at #4 with 2,924 units and 3.3%. In the process Toyota reclaims the title of best-selling manufacturer so far in 2013 from Volkswagen. In Spite of a strong 4.8% market share this month, the Nissan Qashqai is down to #4 and slips to #3 year-to-date at 4.3%. Volvo displays excellent health in Finland: it places the V40 at #8 vs. #12 year-to-date, the V60 at #11 vs. #22, the V70 at #14 vs. #19 and the XC60 at #19 vs. #26.
