Guest post: Top cars for Teenage drivers

At first glance, getting a driver’s license is not a primary concern of today’s younger generation. Nevertheless, a vast majority of them are eager to acquire their first vehicle to finally get the desired freedom of transportation and thus feel more independent. And if the choice of an auto does not seem really challenging to them, it might present some difficulties from their parents’ perspective, which is no wonder as caring moms and dads have plenty of factors to consider apart from the car being fast and cool. The first ones are terrified by the perspective of sleepless nights they might have if they worry too much about their fresh-baked drivers behind the steering wheel on a slippery road. The second ones are also concerned with the possibility to face too high insurance costs and other accompanying expenses, which will lead to emptying their pockets. So what we all are looking for here is a safe, reliable and economical car. Plus the price of the vehicle itself preferably has to be affordable. Ok, let’s all take a deep breath and look into the options we have.

Luckily, there are plenty of them. But before we dive into models and makes, some general points should be mentioned. Having analyzed the information from major car review sites, we can conclude that anyone trying to pick out an appropriate car for a new chauffeur should opt for mid-sides sedans. Due to a four cylinder engine a young driver won’t be allowed too much power on the road, so the performance of such automobiles will be just right. Moreover, the newest models are usually enhanced with top-notch safety features. Such cars will lessen your family budged by $15 000 to $20 000, and the insurance rate will be quite tolerable. Newer SUVs might not be a bad idea, but you can’t overlook the fact that they are too unwieldy for inexperienced drivers and thus might be dangerous. And you should pay attention to the fact that neither heavy cheap pickup trucks nor sporty cars are a good decision for obvious reasons.

The most rational solutions, recommended by the most customer-friendly review sites, are the following sedans:

  • Ford Fusion 2012
  • Honda Accord 2009-2012
  • Hyundai Sonata 2011-2013
  • Chevrolet Malibu 2009-2013
  • Volkswagen Golf 2012-2013
  • Toyota Camry 2009-2012

These and some other models should be perfect for teen drivers. According to http://new-york.localmart.com/cars/ the cost of these models does not exceed $15 000. These cheap cars are all available with electronic stability control which automatically eliminates the possibility of a vehicle spinning in an unpredicted road situation. As it is known, these makes are serviced easily and cost-efficiently. In addition, they are environmentally-friendly and are able to get more than 20 miles per gallon of gas. So, if you look at it the other way, your car purchase is not really a problem to face – it’s just another pleasant shopping experience.

  1. As an antique auto restorer I get asked this question all the time. What car to get for my kid. My answer is if you love your child buy them the biggest Lincoln or Cadillac possible. Lots of metal around them at least for the first 6 months. The 90’s Lincolns Continental is the best. Forget the cute roller skates the kids want. You buy, you choose.
