As it has now become the norm on BSCB, I offer you today the German Private Sales (PS) charts as an appetiser to the overall models ranking, Always fascinating to look ‘behind the scenes’ at which models are truly successful with private buyers, and at this little game the foreigners are doing much better than in the overall ranking: there are 16 of them inside the Top 40 this month, including 11 ‘true’ foreigners (not owned by the Volkswagen Group). No change on top: the VW Golf is still #1 in spite of a particularly low 30% PS ratio, followed by the VW Polo at a much better 61%. The Mercedes A-Class brilliantly climbs onto the podium thanks to an OK 56% ratio, passing the Mercedes B-Class at 60%.

Dacia Sandero Germany August 2013. Picture courtesy of Auto Motor und SportThe Dacia Sandero is the most popular ‘true’ foreign model with German private buyers.

The Audi A3 is up 2 spots on July to #5 in spite of only 30% PS, while the Skoda Fabia is the best-selling ‘foreigner’ at #6. The most popular ‘true’ foreigner is however the Dacia Sandero, as regular as ever at stratospheric heights with a whopping 93% PS ratio, up 5 ranks on last month to #9 with 1,554 private sales. The Nissan Qashqai is up 12 spots to #11 and 63%, the Seat Ibiza up 3 to #13 while the Mazda CX-5 is up from outside the Top 40 in July directly to #18 with an excellent 65% PS ratio and the Dacia Duster is up 13 to #20 and 88%.

Other great performers include the Fiat Ducato at 77% private, Ford Kuga at 71%, Toyota Yaris at 70%, Skoda Yeti at 68% and Opel Mokka at 66%, now the brand’s best-seller at #31. Yes you have read correctly: there are no Opel in the German Private Sales Top 30 this month… At the other end of the scale, only 21% of Opel Astra, Opel Corsa and BMW 3 Series were bought privately in Germany this month, 30% of Ford Focus and 31% of Audi A1.
