The Brazilian new car market is up a whopping 29% year-on-year in April to 316,705 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,104,341 units, up 9% on 2012. This month the Top 6 most popular models are identical to the year-to-date ranking. The VW Gol leads at 6.8% share, followed by the Fiat Uno at 5.5% and the Fiat Palio at 5.3%. The Hyundai HB20 seems to have stabilised around (never-seen-before-for-Hyundai-in-Brazil) 4% market share and ranks 4th once again with 12,118 sales and 3.8%.

VW Voyage Brazil April 2013VW Voyage

The VW Voyage is up 3 spots on March to a brilliant 7th place, its highest ranking since the nameplate was reintroduced 4 years ago, while the Chevrolet Onix is down 4 to #9. The Ford Ecosport is up 3 to #13, the new gen Chevrolet Prisma is stable at #17, the Toyota Etios Hatch is up 4 to #25 and the Etios Sedan is up one to #31.

Peugeot 208 Brazil April 2013Peugeot 208

We welcome two new models in the Brazilian ranking this month: the Peugeot 208 directly breaks into the Top 50 at #45 with 1,659 units and 0.5% but the big event is the arrival of the Hyundai HB20S (for Sedan), landing at #59 with 967 sales and 0.3%. Notice also the JAC J2 up to #64 with the JAC J3 (#92) the only other Chinese model in the Top 100. Looks like increased import duties have done the trick of keeping Chinese models at bay so far…
