This world update is brought to you by Damaged Car Buyers – Scrap Car Specialists.

Now that we have cleared off Commercial Vans, let’s have a look at the most popular Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) in the world. For this ranking I thought it would make sense to combine the worldwide sales of Dodge Grand Caravan (193,227) and Chrysler Town & Country/Voyager as it is in essence the same vehicle, albeit available in different specs depending on the brand. Added up, its sales amount to 316,997 which earns it the title of most popular MPV in the world.

Daihatsu Xenia Indonesia December 2012bDaihatsu Xenia

The Toyota Avanza/Daihatsu Xenia follows with 288,425 units, a staggering 92% of which were sold in Indonesia alone where the twin MPV are built. Amazing to see how sales in a South East Asian market alone can have an impact on the world scene already. The Toyota Innova rounds up the podium with 192,206 sales, followed by the Toyota Prius a/+/v at 184,838 units for its first full year of sales, the Nissan Livina at 169,372 and the Honda Odyssey at 168,792.

JAC Refine World 2012JAC Refine

The first European model is the VW Touran at #7 with 150,646 sales, ahead of the Renault Scenic at #8 and 136,375 and the Ford C-Max at #10 and 130,036 units. Notice also the Honda Freed leading the mini-MPV category at #11 ahead of the Nissan Note at #12, the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire at #13, Peugeot 3008 at #14, Citroen C3 Picasso at #19 and VW Golf Plus at #22. The DongFeng Future leads the Chinese charge at #23, followed by the DongFeng Joyear at #27 and JAC Refine at #34.
