Its sales in North America where it has been leading the charts for decades are enough for the Ford F-Series to snap up the title of most popular pick-up truck on earth in 2012 with 785,028 units finding a buyer. The Toyota Hilux is #2 with 637,706 units and is estimated to be in the lead in no less than 31 countries around the world. The Chevrolet Silverado rounds up the podium thanks to 474,020 sales.

Good hold of the Dodge RAM at #4 with 372,257 units, followed by the Isuzu D-Max at 255,538, the Nissan Navara at 238,157 (spanning two generations), GMC Sierra at 209,829 and Chevrolet Colorado at 176,387, making it 4 large US-built pick-up and 4 medium Thailand-bulit pick-ups in the Top 8. This really summarises where the pick-up production hubs are.

A surprise in 9th position: the Great Wall Steed does extremely well at 153,630 units and could climb higher in 2013 now that the markets it is on sale in are starting to spread, with the UK added to the list in 2012. Further down, notice the Fiat Strada leading the small pick-up category at #13 followed by the VW Saveiro at #16 and Chevrolet Tornado at #17 (all coming from Brazil), the Toyota Tundra at #14 and the JMC Tiger at #18.
