Things are getting ugly for new car sales in the Czech Republic: down 22% year-on-year in February to 10,562 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 22,633 units, down 14% on 2012. Feeling the effect of the generation changeover, the Skoda Octavia falls below 10% share for the first time in potentially 5 years at 9.6% and 1,014 sales, followed by the Skoda Fabia at 686 units and 6.5%, its lowest share since last August. But it may also all be due to the success of the Skoda Rapid, maintaining itself on the third step of the Czech podium this month tanks to 364 sales and 3.4% share, with the VW Golf only 6 units below…
Other great performers in the Czech Republic this month include the Hyundai i20 up to #6, its best ranking in one year, the Peugeot 301 up a huge 50 spots on January to break into the Czech Top 20 for the first time at #19 with 128 units and 1.2% (and making the Czech Republic the third country in the world where the 301 has ranked within the Top 20 so far with Turkey and Algeria), the Peugeot 5008 up 29 to #20, Fiat Punto up 26 to #30, Citroen C-Elysee up 11 to #34, Seat Toledo up 43 to #93 and the Opel Mokka landing at #140.
